Governance.io awarded Fintech Startup of the Year

On Tuesday 21 June, Governance.io became Luxembourg’s first FinTech startup of the year. Governance.io helps investment fund managers and depositaries to deal with their regulatory oversight duties. It is created by Luxembourg based company 2Gears, and was launched in the Luxembourg market in 2015.
The FinTech Awards received 80 submissions from startups from all areas of FinTech, including Payments, Blockchain, Big Data, Robo Advisors and Regulatory Compliance. After a first selection, 15 comp
anies were invited to make 3 pitches during the Semi-finals in May. Ten companies made it to the final that was held at the KPMG head-office in Luxembourg on 21 June.
In presence of the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Mr. Xavier Bettel and the Minister of Finance, Mr Pierre Gramegna, the ten finalist FinTechs pitched for 6 minutes in front of the audience and a jury composed of renowned serial entrepreneurs, industry’s specialists, representatives of the regulator and financial institutions. Each pitch was followed by 4 minutes of quick-fire questions from the Jury members.
Following 2 hours of exceptional pitches from the finalists, the jury awarded Governance.io the title of FinTech of the year.
Bert Boerman, 2Gears’ CEO responded after receiving the award: “We are of course ecstatic with this award, as it a big recognition for our vision of innovating investment fund oversight. What excites me equally is that our solution managed to win from other amazing products like Robo-advisors and Big Data solutions. Regulatory compliance is often considered boring and dull, but I think that our beautiful user interfaces, and our approach of making these processes effortless resonated with the Jury of industry leaders.”
